THE HEART OF
LANCASTER
COUNTY
Lancaster,
Mount
Joy and
Elizabethtown are in the heart of
Lancaster
County, a peaceful and serene area known as the “Garden Spot of Pennsylvania.” Here you will find some of the most fertile farmland along with old religious sects such as the Amish and Mennonite communities, many of whom farm this land. You will find 30 covered bridges in
Lancaster
County and the
Susquehanna River that is the western border.
Although you may come across horse drawn carriages as you travel through the county, there is a mixture of the old and new wherever you locate. There are museums and farmers’ markets to visit but also top rate theaters. For the shoppers, outlet malls and shopping centers abound. Just don’t miss the antique and specialty shops. Especially, don’t miss the hand sewn quilts.
Lancaster
County is also proud of the three major colleges,
Elizabethtown
College,
Millersville
University, and Franklin &
Marshall
College. Other schools of higher education include
Lancaster Bible College,
Lebanon Valley College,
Harrisburg
Area
Community College,
Penn
State
University –
Lancaster
Center, Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology, and
Consolidated School of
Business.
Having one of the strongest economies in the state gives this area stability through the good times and the not so good. Agriculture is a large part of the economy but there are over 800 industrial establishments also. Since
Lancaster
County attracts more than five million tourists each year, this is the third major factor in our economy.
Many people are attracted to the strong community spirit and find this is a great place to call home. Whether looking for a new home development, a rural setting, or a historic home
Lancaster
County has something for everyone.
